Merchant Design Tool – How to Set Up

This is a temporary post explaining how to set up Merchant Design Tool – our pet project we have been working on for over a year and a half and finally ready to release it to creative people everywhere.

So what is MDT?  In a sentence, it is a product listing that combines the ability for customers to design a product live on the merchants Shopify store while utilizing the merchants own creative templates and designs.

Sorry, maybe a little confusing.

Maybe it’s a little easier to show live.  For example this listing of custom Unicorn t-shirt

We supply the base T shirt designer set up with all the available shirt colors and shirt sizes.  The merchant can then modify this listing to enable/disable text configuration, enable/disable upload image, and create their own image group / frames customers can choose from.  The customer designs the template right on the site and at time of purchase we (Podify) receive all the final details ready to produce!

So let me show you how to set up this exact product step by step.

First, go to Design Tool > Images and upload all the images to be used in this group.

Multiple images can be selected at once.

After uploaded go to Design Tool > Image Groups and then Create Group.  Let’s call it Unicorn Heads.

Each image we want in our group we want to add by clicking the Yellow + button and for each item give the picture a name (I used made up Unicorn names, you can use whatever you want!), select the image.  Thumbnail you will probably want to keep as Full Image.  Click Save Group once done.

Next, go to Design Tool > Products and because we want to make a Unisex shirt we go to Create a Template

Once inside the template you will see there are many options to enable / disable.

  • We can totally disable or enable upload image.  In this specific product we do not require upload image so this can be disabled.
  • For this product we want to only enable text input for the bottom so Middle Text and Top Text can be disabled.
  • We can have the Default Text for Bottom Text appear or not.  This is the stores decision.  We usually do Hide the Default Text.
  • The only thing left to configure is Image Group

For Image Group select the Image Group you just made, give the selector a name (Choose Your Head, Select Unicorn, etc.), and select a Default Image.

If you did it right the final set up should look like this

Hit Save Template and then Configure Product.

Give the product a name, select your prices, modify the description and Add to Store.

Give the system a little time to work its magic and the product should be live in your store!  Here it is:

Getting Your First Sale – I Show You!

In this guide – I will show you how to take a brand new Etsy store and bring in sales.  Everything is authentic, real, and easily repeatable.

We made Podify in the hope that online entrepreneurs from all over the world will be able to make sizable incomes with our app.

Nothing makes the Podify team happier than to see another successful merchant bring in consistent sales and write to us how they were able to increase their monthly budget, get out of debt, and even quit their jobs all thanks to Podify!

Making money online sure sounds nice.  How cool is it that money is flowing into your bank account 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and you never even have to get out of your pajamas?

This has been the dream for millions of people since the dawn of the Internet.  Unfortunately the Internet of the day is more competitive and crowded than ever.  But the tools and platforms of today make it easier than ever to start a real online business.

Why is Print on Demand one of the best ways to make money online in 2021?

  • People have always bought personalized products and the trend has been consistently going up each year since forever.  This is a trend that will never go away
  • An online store is a completely legitimate business.   There are many ways to make money online, but money require luck, fraud, or are too risky to be considered a real business.  With Podify you can build your own fully brandable, real business that customers will come back to for years.  This is a business that can last!
  • People love unique items they cannot find on Amazon or at the mall.  Amazon will probably continue getting bigger and gobble it more eCommerce competition.  That’s ok – fortunately as of 2021 they hardly have hit the POD realm.

In this post I will show you step-by-step how to make your first sale online.  This system has been tested 100s of times and almost every time it has brought in sales.

I can’t promise this will make you filthy rich.

I can’t even promise you will turn a profit.

But I can say with near certainty if you follow these instructions you will get your first sale.  And if you’ve yet to receive your first sale, it is a really good feeling.

And if you work hard really hard, you will learn how to make a sale every single day.  And then 5 sales a day.  And maybe even 20 sales a day.  And so on…

What platform is best to get started?

Many first time sellers start out on Etsy, Amazon, eBay or another giant platform.

This is a fine option for newbies but there are a few reasons why we recommend to NOT start on these channels:

  • Competition is intense.  There are over 2.5 million sellers just on Etsy.  The chance to stand out is very, very difficult.  It’s not impossible but will be difficult to make serious money.  It will be difficult to get sales and if you do get sales it will be very hard to profit due to price cutting.   You are going to work really hard for maybe a cup of coffee.
  • Fees are very high.  These platforms can take as high as 15% off the final price as commission.  So not only will you receive a small amount of money, a lot of it will go straight to Etsy’s/Amazon’s/Ebay’s already very deep pockets
  • Flexibility is limited.  You are bind to the platforms capabilities.  Not all of them are friendly to POD sellers
  • It will be hard to build a brand, market to your audience, and do things the “right” way.

Building a standalone .com website will take more time but the potential is much greater.  You will build an asset that can grow in value for years.  You have greater control over your destiny and not let Etsy algorithms decide your success.

We recommend either:

  • Shopify
  • Wix
  • WooCommerce

So before we even begin with Podify we need to decide what product(s) to sell.  This is the key question here and this is where we need to spend most of our time.  If we pick successfully, the rest of the business will be easy.  If we are not successful we lose a ton of time and money.  We will also get frustrated and maybe give up.  So let’s really look into product selection first.  Spend on it a full waking day if you need to.  Or even a week.  The important thing is to do it correctly.

So what do I mean by selecting the right product?  Ideally we want a product that:

  • Has a significant amount of searches.  A popular product
  • Has fairly low competition
  • Can be resold for significant profit

If our product does not tick the above 3 requirements we are wasting our time.

And again, it may take time to find the right product.  It may be really boring.  I know you are super excited to make some $$$.  But it is the most important thing you can do to maximize your potential.

So now that we have our criteria, let’s go look for our potential winner.

Criteria 1: Finding a popular product

Out of all the criteria this is a bit tricky.  But let’s see what we can do

Criteria 2: Low competition

Criteria 3: Can be resold significant profit

How much can you profit here after all costs are considered?

Can you make $5?  $10?  $20?

Choosing between Personalized or Pre designed

C are searching for 2 types of products:

  1. Personalized products with the customers image.  You give a blank canvas or template.  Customer completes the product with their image / name.
  2. Pre-designed products.  You offer the finished product with your own artwork.

Both have their strengths and weaknesses.

For personalized products you are more likely to have less competition and can be more creative.  But you will have to correspond back and forth maybe across multiple messages.  And you risk the customer not being happy with their purchase due to bad artwork or the picture not printing the way they want.

For predesigned products the process is a lot easier.  You upload products with your artwork.  Customers buy the product as is with no further modifications.  The downside is there is much more competition and it may be difficult to know which artwork will catch.  Because Etsy charges per listing we can’t go too crazy here.

Best Print on Demand Shopify Apps for 2021 - Ecommerce Platforms

Shopify Print on Demand – What You Need to Know

Best Print on Demand Shopify Apps for 2021 - Ecommerce Platforms

With the astonishing rise of online retail, new opportunities have emerged for entrepreneurs. One of the most notable recent examples of this is the burgeoning print-on-demand space. Though the industry is still in relative infancy, its market cap should eclipse nearly $7 billion by 2027, according to experts.

All of this is to say that if you’re not yet familiar with Print on Demand, or POD, as it’s commonly shortened to, you really should be. Gaining this knowledge will be doubly important for entrepreneurs with Shopify stores.

Print on Demand works best through Shopify, which is why companies like Podify were created specifically to be integrated with the ubiquitous merchant platform. Our app offers seamless syncing between platforms, lightning-fast performance, and the functionality that you need to create a thriving POD business on Shopify.

Keep reading to learn more about POD services on Shopify and how Podify makes it easier for your company to take advantage of this growing space.

What is Print on Demand, Exactly? How Does it Work?

Let’s start with the basics. You’ve probably guessed what print-on-demand means if you didn’t know already. But just in case you haven’t, it’s a service that makes it incredibly easy for companies and customers to design and purchase personalized products.

The best way to understand POD companies is to take a closer look at how they function. Typically, they display a list of product choices on their website. A company can look at the POD store’s offerings and pick the products they’d like to customize.

Then, the customization process takes place — usually entirely online. An entrepreneur can alter the appearance of the products that they’re going to sell in a variety of ways. For example, someone could add their logo to a coffee mug or place an image that they know their customers will get excited about on a yoga mat.

After you’ve customized the products that you want to sell, your job is basically done. You can quickly begin listing those products for sale in your online shop. When a customer purchases one of these items, you won’t have to do a thing. The POD business will automatically create the product and ship it directly to your customer’s doorstep.

What Can You Use Print on Demand For?

There are several different intriguing ways to use a POD company. For example, you might use this service to test out a new business idea that you have. Print on Demand dropshipping enables you to get creative and try new things without having to purchase inventory or invest too heavily in the product launch.

People also use POD to monetize existing audience bases that they haven’t yet. For example, a YouTuber might have a large audience that they’d like to sell merchandise. POD enables the YouTuber to create customized apparel, tech accessories, headwear, and more without having to set up a distribution pipeline on their own.

Print on Demand services also make it easier to sell products for niche audiences. For example, you might have identified a small group of customers who you know will get excited about certain products.

But the group might not be large enough to warrant investing in a product development process. Companies like Podify allow you to reach their audience with customized products without having to risk a large portion of capital to do so.

What are the Benefits of Print on Demand with Shopify?

Shopify is one of the largest commerce platforms in existence. They make it incredibly easy to set up a store and sell products both online and in-person. But what really makes Shopify special is the optionality they offer to add applications to your store.

Shopify apps give store owners complete control over how their virtual storefront appears to consumers and operates. This is what makes POD services on Shopify so powerful. They can be seamlessly integrated into your existing setup. So you can begin using them without having to expend almost any effort on your end.

There are several reasons to use a POD service like Podify on your Shopify account. First, you’ll be able to create new products incredibly quickly. Podify allows you to move from the design phase to listing the new product on your site within a few minutes.

We also take care of all shipping and fulfillment tasks for you. All that you need to do is focus on selling the product. After the sale, the only continuing service that you’ll need to provide is customer service. We’ll handle everything else on our end.

Podify also takes the risk out of listing new products on your Shopify page. You won’t have to invest heavily to do so because you won’t have to hold any physical inventory.

So when you use Podify to create customized products for your customers, you can add and remove those products as quickly as you like, without risking your company’s financial health.

Podify Was Made Specifically for Shopify Integration

If you’re ready to give print on demand a try, you’ll want to do it through Shopify. And there’s no better POD app for the platform than Podify’s Dynamic Print on Demand application.

We’re the only POD app that allows customers to fully design more than 100 custom products from start to finish. We even generate previews in real-time. Additionally, we offer unique products that many of our competitors don’t, including options like:

  • Custom sequin clothing
  • Yoga mats
  • Jigsaw puzzles
  • Body pillows
  • AirPod Cases
  • And so much more

Our unique design tool stands alone in the POD industry. But don’t take our word for it. You can try Podify today by adding our application to your Shopify store.

Which POD App is the Best: Printful, Printify, or Podify?

Entrepreneurs today have a number of print-on-demand services to choose from, each of which will call itself the best. But which one is actually telling the truth? We’re obviously a bit biased, but we’re confident that Podify’s unique offerings place it head and shoulders about competitors like Printful and Printify.

But we don’t expect you to just take our word for that. Let’s take a closer look at some of the main factors that an entrepreneur should consider when picking a POD app. With hard data, we’ll show you why Podify is the best way to start taking advantage of the growing POD dropshipping marketplace. Keep reading to learn more.

Product Offering

All three of Printful, Podify, and Printify offer entrepreneurs a wide range of customizable products to choose from. You can use any of the services to customize things like t-shirts and coffee mugs.

But if you’re looking for products that are a bit off the beaten path, then Podify is really your only option. It’s the only POD app of the three that offers entrepreneurs the opportunity to customize unique items, like:

  • Yoga mats
  • Jigsaw puzzles
  • Reversible sequins
  • And more

Costs are an essential component to consider before choosing the POD app that’s right for your company. You need to verify that the customized products they enable you to dropship will actually make you money. So let’s look at how these three services compare when it comes to price.

The price that each of these services charges for basic items like t-shirts is very similar. But the exact dollar amount that you pay will depend on a few factors. For example, Printify sells monthly recurring memberships. You could pay less per item that you buy from them if you pay the company a monthly fee. This may or may not be worth the cost-savings for your business.

But when it comes to average price across all products, Podify comes out on top again. Our prices are up to 25% lower than both Printful and Podify. That means more money in your pocket on every POD-created item you sell.

Ease of Use

The last thing that you want to have to do is waste your valuable time trying to figure out how to work the POD app that you decide to use. That’s why ease of use is another important factor that you should be considering when you make this comparison.

Thankfully, you won’t have much trouble with using any of the three POD apps in this comparison. Printful, Podify, and Printify all include a number of helpful features that make using them a breeze.

Customization Process

In order to get the most out of the POD app that you decide to use, you need to be able to get the most out of the product customization process. That’s why Podify made this a priority while designing its Dynamic Printing App for Shopify.

For example, Podify is the only POD app that lets customers fully design more than 100 custom products from start to finish. We give you more control over what your products end up looking like than our competitors do. That’s because we understand that you know your customers best. And it’s our mission to ensure that you’re able to meet their needs with our highly-customizable products.

At the same time, you won’t feel overwhelmed with all of the choices that are available to you. Our customization tool is very straightforward, enabling you to create the products that you want to sell within just a few minutes.

To be fair, Printful and Printify also make it pretty easy to create customized products online. But their customization options are limited compared to what Podify offers. Check out our demo store to get a closer look at what sets our customization process apart from the competition.

Customer Support

All three of these apps offer some helpful customer support options for customers to utilize. For example, Printify has an online help center with articles to help with integrations, troubleshooting, payments, and more.

Printful, on the other hand, has a blog that it regularly updates with useful information for running a successful print-on-demand business. Both of these companies also offer several different ways to contact a human for customer support as well.

But Podify still manages to stand out with its impressive customer service and support offerings. One of the best examples of this is our 24-hour response time guarantee. It’s our pledge to you that you will never have to wait for more than a day to get the response that you need to move forward with your POD service.

The Bottom Line: Which POD App is Best?

Based on all of the information references above, we can’t help but conclude that Podify comes out on top. Our Shopify App is the only application that offers something we’re calling cPOD (customer Print on Demand).

With it, you can allow your customers to create their own products and sell them in your store like you would sell anything else. This unlocks a completely new dimension for your POD store that you won’t be able to access if you go with either Printful or Printify.

On top of that, we offer best-in-class customer service, lower prices, and a powerful customization process. All of this is packed together in an app that can be seamlessly integrated into your existing Shopify account.

If you’d like to learn more about the products that Podify offers and how they can be customized, check out our Demo Store. Or, you can get started with Podify today by adding our Dynamic Print on Demand App to your Shopify account.

The Best POD Dropship Products of 2021

The global market for dropshipping is valued at more than $100 billion. But just 10% of dropshipping companies actually succeed. So what sets those who do well in the industry from those who don’t? Well, several things, but the most successful dropshipping companies sell products that the majority of the market doesn’t.

You can do the same by using Podify. Our integrated Shopify App enables you to customize a unique array of intriguing products for your customers. You can even let your customers personalize their own products.

But not any POD dropship products will do. Check out some of our unique offerings that you can start selling to differentiate your company from the rest of the market.

#1. Dropship Yoga Mats

Yoga has gotten more and more popular in recent years. As of 2021, there are a total of 27 million people who practice it in the United States alone. Yet few POD services allow companies to create customized yoga mats for their consumers.

Podify does. We allow companies to customize yoga mats in several different ways. For instance, you can do so by uploading an image that you’d like to have displayed on the mat. Or you can customize it with your favorite color.

We also make it easy to add text to yoga mats, so you can quickly create a branded product that your customers will love. But don’t just take our word for it. Check out the custom yoga mat page in our demo store. You’ll find it easy to customize the product until it fits your specifications.

Podify’s customizable sequin shirts offer another fantastic way to separate your company from the crowd. We offer a wide variety of sizes, shirt colors, and sequin colors to choose from. You can also upload your own images and text blocks to the shirts, which offers further opportunities for customization.

But the best part about these shirts is that the sequins are reversible. When you run your hand from one side to the other, a hidden image will be revealed. That enables you to get even more creative with how you’re going to appeal to your customers.

Podify makes it easy to customize several different types of sequin attire, including:

  • Kids’ shirts
  • Womens’ shirts
  • Mens’ shirts
  • Hoodies
  • And more

Or you can create your own jigsaw puzzle from scratch. Choose to include as many as 1,000 pieces or as few as 35. Then, brand the puzzle with your company’s logo and add images to it that you know your customers will love.

You can even use our Shopify App to seamlessly begin allowing your customers to design their own jigsaw puzzles right from your online store. Adding this functionality to your shop is another excellent way to stand out from the competition.

How to Make Money with Etsy

Etsy is an online marketplace that burst onto the scene during the Covid-19 pandemic. It’s developed a name for itself as a place where consumers can purchase handcrafted, unique items without having to leave their homes.  It’s always a great way to Start a dropshipping business

Etsy had over 2.5 million sellers at the end of 2019. And that number is only expected to rise in the future. Add to that the company’s nearly $5 billion in 2020 revenue and it becomes clear that the popular online marketplace has a bright future ahead of it.

Maybe you’d like to become a part of all of this. If so, you’ve come to the right place. We’ve put together a guide that will demonstrate the steps that you need to take in order to start making money on Etsy by selling unique items.

Before getting into that, if you’re looking for a company that will help you source the creations that you’ll sell on Etsy, consider Podify. We’re a print-on-demand (POD) service that allows you to sell customized apparel, tech accessories, puzzles, and more without having to handle any inventory yourself. Keep reading to learn more.

Determine What You’ll Sell

The first thing that you need to do is figure out what you’ll sell in your Etsy store. This is a decision that should be based on several key factors.

For example, you’ll want to verify that the items you’re selling have a demand on the marketplace. Inventing a brand new product can be exciting, but you may not get many sales if no one’s searching for it or understands what it is.

A good strategy is to look into which types of items do the best on Etsy. For example, stores that sold face masks did tremendously well during the Covid-19 pandemic. That’s not to say that you need to follow the crowd completely. Your best bet is to take one of your passions and figure out how you can turn it into a product that satisfies one of the market’s demands.

You’ll do even better if the products that you offer are unique to your Etsy store. For example, you can use Podify to create customized air pod cases that stand out from what everyone else in your niche is doing.

Make Sure You Can Make a Profit

It’s not enough to simply create a product that people on Etsy will want to buy. You also need to ensure that you’re being rewarded for the time that you spend doing this. You need to verify that you will make a profit when you get a sale on Etsy in order to ensure that your making good use of your time.

To do that, you should weigh the costs of a sale against the revenue you expect to generate from one. These are the costs that you should analyze:

  • Production costs
  • Etsy’s fees ($0.20 to list an item, 5% of the sale price)
  • Marketing costs
  • How much you can sell each product for

If you’re not sure how much you can charge for each of your items, do some research. Check in on successful Etsy stores that sell products in your niche and see what they’re charging. Then use that information to inform your profit plan.

Podify can help you save money so that you can ensure you’re making a profit with your Etsy store. Our print-on-demand service is up to 25% cheaper than the other major players in our space.

Set Up Your Shop

Next, you’re ready to set up your shop. This is a process that will involve several things. First, you need to take appealing photos of the items that you plan on selling. It’ll be worth your time to do some research online to ensure that you get it right.

After that, make sure that you write engaging descriptions for both your items and your shop. Ideally, the words that you write will help to bring your store to life, showing your customers exactly why they should purchase from you instead of from one of your competitors.

You may also want to take advantage of Etsy’s in-house customization tool, called Pattern. The tool enables you to make a website that’s as unique as the products you sell. Pattern costs $15 a month, but it can be a fantastic way to differentiate your store from the competition.

Market Yourself

This is one of the most challenging parts of being successful on Etsy. There are millions of sellers on the marketplace. So it’s critical that you’re able to find a way to set yourself apart from the crowd and attract a base of clients.

Most Etsy store-owners do this via social media marketing. Pinterest, in particular, is a very powerful way to drive new traffic to your shop. But you can also use platforms like Facebook and Instagram to attract new clients.

Ultimately, you need to figure out how you will provide value to your customers. Consider why someone would want to buy from you. Then translate that into marketing content that you distribute through all of these social media channels.

The process may take some time. But if you stick with it, you’ll start gaining a real following on your social media accounts. That’s the first step towards turning your Etsy store into a successful one with targeted marketing.

Take the Next Step with Shopify and Podify

61% of Etsy sellers are multi-channel retailers. As your shop grows, it could make sense to expand your online presence outside of the Etsy platform. The simplest way to do that is by creating a standalone online store with Shopify.

Podify was specifically designed for Shopify integration. Its powerful design tool will allow you to continue creating your own unique product designs within minutes — regardless of whether you integrate Podify with Shopify or continue using it with your Etsy store.

You can even give your customers the freedom to design their own personalized products. We dropship products that most companies don’t, including jigsaw puzzles, reversible sequins, and even yoga mats.

But don’t just take our word for it. Check out our Demo Shop to see all of the unique products that you could begin selling to your customers on Etsy to make money.

Podify & Loox Integration

Starting a brand new store is hard.  We make your store come to life with real reviews from real customers with our all-new integration with Loox – the #1 review app in the Shopify App Store, and the #1 paid app!

Reviews are extremely important to build trust and ultimately increase your conversion rate.  When a customer is looking to make a purchase they first want to hear from other customers what their buying experience was like and see photo reviews of the product they are considering to purchase. Having no reviews or bad reviews can be the difference maker if someone decides not to purchase. By adding real reviews, and mostly reviews with photos, customers will be more likely to purchase from your store.

We have supplied nearly 4000 genuine reviews gathered over the last two years from our own network of Podify enabled stores.  For the first time ever, we are letting all Podify merchants gain access to these valuable assets to enhance their own Shopify stores.  Within minutes your store can go from looking like a new website to an established brand!

Nearly every product is supported and most reviews contain photos.

How it works is very simple:

  1. Install the Loox Shopify application
  2. Select the products you wish to add reviews by going to either Add New Product or My Products and then finding the product you wish to add reviews
  3. Click on the Magic Import Tool
  4. Start Importing (Must have Loox installed)
  5. Reviews will appear on your live store!

At the moment we are limited to 20 reviews per product. Over time more reviews will be added for all products.

Please note Loox has a 14 day trial but starts at $9.99/month at the end of the trial.

Any questions please let us know.
We wish you much success.
